Einion Dafydd, born in Cardiff in 1962 Educated: Llanhari Comprehensive School, University of Wales, Bangor, (Bmus, MA), Mills College (California). Main instruments: clarinet (studied with Mike Saxton) and saxophone (self taught, but influence by Anthony Braxton in California). Research: Darius Milhaud.Musical tendencies (as seen in his record/CD collection): Beethoven, Bartok, Glenn miller, Somin and Garfunkel, Kurt Weill, Paul Desmond, Milla Brothers, Miles Davis, World Saxophone Quartet, Berg. Dafydd’s style, in relation to his position at Glanaethwy, can be very eclectic. Otherwise, it is characterised by the use pf modes, sequential; harmony and pantonality. Resident musician on the staff of Glanaethwy Performance Institute. Instrumental teacher, and teacher of open-access classes, researcher (eg contributions to the translation of the Oxford Concise Dictionary of Music into Welsh). |
